Calipatria's Flagpole Still Flying

The one thing that stands out enough to be noticed is the 184-foot flagpole that faces ocean level. The thought of the flagpole was initially proposed in a Chamber of Commerce meeting. One of the purpose behind's that was the expense was too high.

At that point on the night of October 5, 1957, Calipatria's drug specialist, Harry Momita and wife Helen were in a car accident while on their approach to see their kids in Los Angeles. Helen was murdered in and Harry was sent to the healing center for a few wounds and was there for over two weeks.

The story behind Harry and Helen Momita was that they were Japanese Americans who had been in a migration camp in Arizona, which was later grabbed by the universal press and radio that was given overall reputation. With the assistance of numerous colleagues from Calipatria and other individuals outside the city, they gave cash for blossoms out of appreciation for Helen's commemoration.

At 184 feet tall, the Calipatria flagpole claims to be the world's tallest flagpole.

Now Calipatria boasts of the tallest flagpole at sea level, flying Old Glory 184 feet high, and when the wind blows, which it often does in the Imperial Valley, there is no more beautiful sight than to see the beautiful colors of the Flag waving high above. The Flag Company Inc specialized in flags and flagpole designs offered a special edition of flagpoles and to memorize the history of Calipatria Flagpole for the future.
