Easy Guide To Getting Licensed From A Contractors License School In Los Angeles

If you've decided to make construction your career, you must prepare before you can accept any jobs. Before you spend any money, you need to come up with a business plan and a budget. Getting the certifications and licenses you need should be included. A Contractors License School In Los Angeles has a practical guideline to follow.

In California, any job that is valued at over five hundred dollars requires licensing. That value includes labor and materials. Licenses are issued to individuals, corporations, and partnerships and includes general, specialty, and subcontractors. You may be able to get reciprocal licensing if you have had an active license in Utah, Arizona, or Nevada for at least five years.

There is an official application that must be completed. You can fill it out in any of three ways. If you're comfortable with a computer, you may complete the form online and then print it out. For people who would rather fill the form out by hand, you can print it and complete. If you don't have access to a computer, you can call and ask the licensing board to mail you a form. If you do your application by hand, you must use black or blue ink.

In order for the state board to consider your application, you must be at least eighteen years of age and have a valid Social Security Number. You will be required to pass a Department of Justice and FBI background check. This requires getting your fingerprints scanned. Most police departments and sheriff's offices will do this for a small fee.

Your application must be accompanied by a Certificate of Work Experience form. This proves you have enough experience to be considered a journeyman. You are required to fill out a form describing every construction project you've completed. There are disclosure statements for any criminal conviction, or plea, in your background.

Contractors with employees must complete a workers' compensation form. Those without have to file an exemption. Individuals who have learning disabilities and need extra time, or other accommodations, to take the test, must complete the examination accommodation request form. A doctor's letter may be required, or an assessment from an academic institution.

A fee of three hundred thirty dollars must accompany your completed application. It will cost you about seventeen dollars for the FBI check and thirty-two dollars for the Department of Justice check. Depending on where you get your fingerprints scanned, these fees may be slightly less or more.

You must pass the examination with a minimum grade of sixty-seven percent. It is a good idea to attend the courses, online, on in class, at a reputable school. The fees are reasonable, and you will have a much better chance of passing the exam the first time if you are well prepared.

You can have a successful career in the construction business, when you have a knack for it. Before you can start though, you must be licensed and bonded. You must consider the money you spend getting this done an investment in your future.
