Search For A Beauty Career With Sacramento Beauty School Program

By Amie Murrieta

Young adults finishing up high school and older women who suddenly find themselves needing a steady job desire a career that does not include a lot of class time. They need to begin work right away and Cosmetology School Sacramento has the answer for them. The career classes last thirteen to sixteen months depending on when they choose to study.

One thing that makes cosmetology the career choice for some people is that it is a hands-on learning experience. There are some class work and study time, but a large majority of the time is spent in the school's beauty salon putting into practice the things that they have learned in class. This is an advantage because the students can get experience and meet ladies who later become their clients when they start working.

Cosmetologists learn to care for a person's hair during their time in class. They learn how to take care of scalp problems, fix and cut hair, dye hair and do massages. Besides dealing with the hair, students also learn how to care for the nails and skin, perform hair removal, dress wigs and apply makeup.

Many cosmetologists work in a salon when they graduate. About half of them own their own salon and either work alone or hire others to work with them. Others branch out into other areas and work on cruises, in hospitals, nursing homes, spas, resorts or hotels. Jobs for cosmetologists are expected to increase ten percent during the next ten years.

Once students have their cosmetology license, the majority will work full-time. For those who prefer part-time work, there are also many opportunities. Many work long hours and weekends to meet their client's needs. Weekends and around the holiday season are always the busiest times for hairdressers.

The average pay for a cosmetologist is between eleven and twelve dollars an hour. Minimum wage is common for those who make the lowest salaries. One advantage to this type of work is that tips can be quite good for those who do quality work.
