Tips For Finding Plumbing Contractors

By Terri Burgan

Locating quality plumbing contractors is tenuous task. There are risks involved like expecting a bill for an amount close to the estimate only to find out there have been a lot of additional tacked on. Plus, there is always the fear that someone presents themselves as an experienced professional only to display their complete lack of skill after obtaining a contract.

These concerns are normal during the search to find someone to fix the pipes or to do a renovation. The stress is even higher when the time constraints of an emergency does not allow for proper research or consideration. There are things one should do before they need a plumber to lower the chances of having a bad experience when they are required.

Though there is little to be done in a true emergency due to time constraints, one may want to do research ahead of time so that spur of the moment needs will be a little less stressful. One of the best ways to get an actual account of how a company performs is to ask people who have used them. Talk to neighbors, family and coworkers and find out who they would recommend or advise against.

The Better Business Bureau is another good place to start. They will have any complaints that have been filed by customers as well as any legal issues in which the contractor may be involved. One should be cautioned against relying solely on this information because the opinions are usually incomplete and one sided.

Never underestimate the power of the internet as a research tool. Check sites that are designed as sounding boards for clients to post reviews of their experiences with local service providers. Using more than one method to gather information will ensure one will receive a more complete picture of what to expect.

Always request all considered plumbing contractors provide a free estimate. Before hiring or signing a contract, review all forms carefully to make sure provisions are made for additional charges. A lower quote does not guarantee that the end price will be as low, or that the quality will be worth the cost.
