Tips On Kitchen Plumbing Repair

By Melissa Wilson

You may easily do minor kitchen plumbing repair yourself. With a few tools you can get right on the job. It will take a bit of effort but it can be done. Expect to get dirty and make a mess. You will also have to get down on your hands and knees.

The sink is used extensively because of all that has to be washed and cleaned. Continuous use will eventually lead to deposits inside the drain pipes that will cause it to clog. First try pouring hot water into the drain. Hopefully it will free the pipes of grease and other debris. For more stubborn clogs you can use a drain cleaner that is readily available in the market.

Faucet leaks are quite common also. Simply listen if there are drips or inspect your faucets for puddles and the like. It may just take a simple replacement of a worn gasket to resolve. Replacing the faucet may be needed if there is a lot of corrosion that has eaten into it causing the leak.

Leaks can also spring up underneath the sink. Check for marks that stagnant water leave. This could be a puddle, some mold and mildew, or darkening of the surface. Once you have found these signs the source of the leak can be traced and fixed.

Pressure is needed to bring water into your home. This pressure may cause pipes to crack or fittings to loosen causing leaks. Check the walls where your pipes pass through for evidence of leaks.

To do kitchen plumbing repair the most important tool you will need is a pipe wrench. Make sure you have rags and buckets handy as well so as to clean up any spills that may happen. When the problem seems too complicated for you to fix yourself, do not force it and call a professional plumber.
